Psalms 56:10-13 (ESV) 10 In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise, 11 in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? 12 I must perform my vows to you, O God; I will render thank offerings to you. 13 For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

How precious is light? The Psalmist declares his need to render thank offerings to God for what God has done, including God’s deliverance and the ability and availability of walking in the light of life. Do you ever consider the value of the light that God has given to you? The Bible not only declares we were in the dark before Christ touched our lives, but we were darkness personified.

Ephesians 5:8 (ESV) for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light

Thankfully, God makes the difference as He shines the light of the Gospel into our hearts.

2 Corinthians 4:3-6 (ESV) 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 1:8-10 (ESV) 8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,

That light of the Gospel is the Lord Jesus Christ, the Light of the World.

John 8:12 (ESV) Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

It only makes sense that if He has taken us from darkness into light that we may know Him and have fellowship with Him, that the more we walk in the light He gives us the closer our fellowship with Him becomes.

1 John 1:7 (ESV) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Isaiah 2:5 (ESV) O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Are you walking in the light? There is a principle in God’s Word that if we use what light He gives us, He multiplies it in giving us even more light.

Psalms 36:9 (ESV) For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

Just look into the light of truth that God has given to you and be thankful. Take what light He has been gracious to give to you and use it. The sign of an insatiable appetite of the things of God is the appreciation and use of the light that has been given. Are you still thrilled at the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ or have the simple truths of God’s Word become familiar and old hat? My prayer is that our church might be a house full of people who are hungering after God and His Word, desiring more and more light as we use what light God has given us and are ever appreciative of His precious light in the Lord Jesus Christ. Does this scripture describe you?

Psalms 89:15 (ESV) Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face,

Godspeed,

Pastor Bob
