It’s easy to take on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for reasons other than being a devoted follower of His. People sling the term, “Christian” rather loosely today. The Bible is pretty clear about the evidence of those who are “put on” Christians, who do not live by the power of the Spirit of God, whose lives have not been changed, who do not submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in comparison to those who have genuine faith.

We begin a four part series on Sunday called Relief For The Wounded, as we consider the hurts of life and how God comforts us in our woundedness and gives us power to overcome. One of my favorite thoughts on this subject is how God takes special notice of our hurt, even our tears.

Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 (ESV) 4 When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no plea sure in fools. Pay what you vow. 5 It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay.

It’s always a joy when a couple comes to me and requests a ceremony to renew their vows. Too many times couples take vows on their wedding day and never give it another thought. Nevertheless the Bible tells us that even when we have forgotten what we have vowed, God has not and He expects us to live up to our vows.

The Call To Peacemaking PDF Print E-mail

Matthew 5:9 (ESV) Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

There is a call in the Bible to be a peacemaker. Jesus in His sermon on the mount declared that seeking to be a peacemaker is an indication that you are one of God’s children. It’s not a prerequisite for becoming a child of God but an indication of those who are God’s children. It only makes sense. A person who is not at peace with God does not know peace; therefore, cannot bring real peace to relationships and situations. On the other hand, if a person has been reconciled to God and finds peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ, there is a true basis for peace for every aspect of life.
